At the second afternoon concert of the MiraTone Festival, we bid farewell to one of the greatest figures in 20th and 21st-century Hungarian music history. Péter Eötvös’s impact has been significant not only as a composer but also through his work as a conductor, teacher, and mentor to many musicians and composers worldwide. One of the highlights of our festival in recent times was the opportunity to work with Péter Eötvös in person and present some of his chamber works to our audience.
For this occasion, four young Hungarian composers will write new works dedicated to the memory of Péter Eötvös, and their world premieres will be presented on August 31. The music will be performed by members of the V4 String Quartet, as well as two outstanding Hungarian artist-teachers from the MiraTone Academy: clarinetist Csaba Pálfi and flutist Noémi Győri.
The memorial concert will conclude with the grandiose String Quartet by Witold Lutosławski, the 20th-century Polish music giant, performed by theensemble-in-residence,the V4 String Quartet.
